Bay St. Lawrence Fishing Derby and Crab Festival

Derby // 8:00am-noon //  $10 // Children $5  // Bay St. Lawrence Wharf // This children-focused derby offers prizes for many categories including smallest fish.

Crab Festival // Noon-supplies last // $25 // Bay St. Lawrence Firehall // Dinner includes locally caught snow crab (or ham), with locally prepared potato salad, coleslaw, roll and desert.

Join local music Derron O'Donnobhain at the Markland for an evening of music inspired by the unique Highland coastline of Northern Cape Breton, which makes the Seawall Trail famous.  Derron will be playing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

In-Time-Tuesday: Remember, local Museums are free!

North Highlands Community Museum

9am-5pm // Free // Cape North // Genealogical records, frontier-life in the highlands, a settlers garden, blacksmith and more, illustrate how hard life was in Seawall Communities.

St. Paul Island Lighthouse Museum

9am-5 pm // Free // Dingwall. Home to a retired lighthouse. Children have lots of fun climbing to the beacon. The history of St. Paul Island, Graveyard of the Gulf, is a testament to the importance of the coast to the all communities of the Seawall Trail.

Wednesday, July 24th

Wander Wednesday

There is so much to do in the Northern Cape Breton communities surrounding the Seawall Trail. Take Friday to do one of these daily activities

  •  Guided Whale Watching, Kayking, Hiking and Cycling Tours.

  • Shop tartans, local crafts, local arts, and local food.

  • Find a sandy, crowd-free beach.

  • Ask a local for a waterfall.

  • Stop at the wharf, look at a fish and ask "what's that?"

Shawn MacKinnon and his fiddle will amaze you. An experienced fishermen and lover of the outdoors, Shawn's passion for the area plays through on his fiddle.

Cape North Farmers Market

10am-1pm // Cape North // Live Music at the Cape North Farmers Market. Come See how the Seawall Highlands shape our communities: local produce, seafood, crafts, baking and food vendors.

Mountain Pine Fish n Zips

Noon-5pm // $45 // South Harbour // Danena's Bakery and Bistro provides the Fish, Mountain Pine Adventures offers the Zips in the unique adventure of a Zipline Ride and local Cape Breton Cuisine, based out of the lovely village of South Harbour on the Cabot Trail.

Seawall Trail

Hike the Trail Head and Lobster Dinner Fundraiser

NOTE: Dates was previously July 28th.

Hike // 11am // $100 (lobster dinner included) // Meat Cove // 3 hours // Free Lobster Dinner with Hike //  This guided hike climbs to a vista, which offers a wonderful glimpse of the terrain one would encounter on the Seawall Trail. Experienced guides will be sharing the stories and history of Meat Cove and Seawall Trail along the route with a delicious lobster dinner waiting at the endress for wind; take a snack and water.

Lobster Dinner // Noon-4pm// $25,  Children 6-15: $10, Children Under 6: Free // Meat Cove // Open to everyone, includes a salad, roll, lobster (or ham), tea or coffee, and desert. Remember, you can skip the Hike and come on in just to eat!

Proceeds of these fundraiser will help develop a long distance, hut-to-hut hiking-trail in Northern Cape Breton. Meat Cove will be the primary Trailhead. Thank you for your support.

Bonus Event:

Oysters and a Bike Tour

  • A half day guided cycling tour (16km, 3 hour)

  • Bike rentals and all necessary equipment, water and on tour snack

  • Stops at local fishing wharves

  • A stop at Hideaway Campground's Oyster Market (seasonally available)

  • Children 12 and older welcome if comfortable riding on road with traffic
